LOCAL ARTS

A new round of artwork is up at City Hall. For the next six months guests can enjoy a wide variety of local art from paintings to printmaking. The new exhibition was celebrated with a reception where artists mingled with the community to dive deeper into their work. Guests dined on refreshments provided by local catering company Steger’s Chiffonade and swayed to the tunes of Ace Pepper and Tracey Chardonnay.

The gallery is run by the City of San Marcos Public Arts Program, which announced an open call to the public months ago. Dozens of local artists submitted artwork that was then juried by Laurie Moyer and Rebekah Porter. Fifteen artists were chosen to display seventeen works of art. The show balances paintings, photography, printmaking and collage to create a diverse showcase of San Marcos talent.

At the reception, San Marcos Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt thanked the exhibiting artists.

“The show is going to be up until March of 2026 and that’s a long time to have a piece parked somewhere, so I don’t take that lightly. Your willingness to show your work in a civic space like this really elevates San Marcos as an artistic city, and I think opens doors to artistic styles and inspirations to people who otherwise might not have access to this,” Hatt said.
