Juan De Dios Hernandez, 73, died in New Braunfels on Friday, June 28.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his five brothers and two sisters - Maria del Carmen Marino of San Antonio, Roman Hernandez of New Braunfels, Marcos Hernandez Jr. of San Marcos, Isidro Hernandez of San Marcos, Robert Hernandez of Austin, Joe Hernandez of New Braunfels, and Rosalinda Hernandez of Marion.

Mr. Hernandez also is survived by three nephews, four nieces and four great-nephews and three great-nieces.

He was preceded by his parents, Marcos Sr. and Magdalena C. Hernandez; brother Jorge; brother-inlaw Melvyn Marino; and sister-in-law Margie Hernandez.

Mr. Hernandez was retired from the TeleCom Department at the University of Texas. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1971.

He assisted in coaching various league softball teams, including the San Marcos Honeybees, and he was a friend to all animals.

Pallbearers will be Robert Hernandez, Marcos Hernandez Jr., Joe Hernandez, David Marino, Mario Moreno and John Martinez. Honorary pallbearers Roman Hernandez, Isidro Hernandez and Joshua Shellabarger.

Visitation will be at Legends Funeral Home in San Marcos from 4:30-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Burial will be private.
