19 Rattlers earn All-District honors

After San Marcos and Cibolo Steele were eliminated from the playoffs, the All-District teams were released which saw 19 Rattler football players earn All-District honors including nine players being named firstteam All-District.

The Rattlers finished the season with an 8-5 overall record, the most wins since 2017 and the first time San Marcos reached the regional semifinals since 2006.

Senior quarterback Buck Steyn was named first-team All-District quarterback after leading the district in passing yards with 2,152.

Joining Steyn on offense is senior running back Justin Tardy and senior offensive lineman Shavien Anderson. Tardy was second in district in rushing yards behind Offensive Player of the Year Jonathan Hatton from Cibolo Steele, rushing for 1,273 yards and 13 touchdowns.

On defense, the Rattlers had six players named first-team All-District defense. Senior defensive lineman Lazareth Pavia, senior defensive end I’Zayah Young, senior linebacker Darius Davis and senior cornerback Hank Harris were named first-team, while sophomore linebacker Cameron Bundage and sophomore safety Kaden Joseph were also named.

The Rattlers vaunted Purple Thunder defense held opponents to an average of 18 points per game, the lowest since 2005.

Davis led the team in total tackles with 111 along with 59 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Bundage was second with 72 total tackles, 27 solo tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

On special teams, senior Julio Alvarado was named first-team All-District punter. Alvarado led the district with five made field goals, going 5-6.

Junior fullback Robert Mayo was named second- team All-District along with junior wide receiver Jordan Lampkin and senior offensive lineman Nicholas Henry.

Senior defensive lineman Jah’Marien Nichols and senior defensive end Trey Walker were named to second-team All-District defense. Senior outside linebacker Colson Geesee, senior cornerback Javian Rhodes, senior offensive lineman Derrick McGarity and senior wide receiver Elliot Gray were named Honorable Mention.

Senior linebacker Darius Davis was named first-team All-District. Davis led the Rattlers in total tackles with 111 along with 59 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks.
Sophomore Cameron Bundage [33] and senior Lazareth Pavia [90] earned first-team All-District honors. The Rattlers had six defensive players make first-team All-District.
