Bobcats win first home game over Prairie View A&M

The Bobcats captured their first home win of the season with a 93-52 win over the Prairie View A&M Panthers.

Texas State improves to 2-5 overall while the Panthers drop to 2-5.

“I’m just really excited about an overall team win,” Head Coach Zenarae Antoine said. “We saw a lot of pieces. [The] happiest stat is the assist column. We had 17 assists, and that’s something that we’ve really hammered home is moving the ball to create scores and understanding that we needed to convert as well on turnovers that we created.”

The Bobcats exploded in the first half, scoring over 25 points in both periods as Texas State failed to give up the lead.

Five Bobcat players ended the game scoring in double figures with sophomore Saniya Burks leading the team with 28 points. Sophomore Kyra Anderson had a team high 17 points and six rebounds. The trio of sophomore Mia Galbraith, junior Kyla McBride and senior Myri Walker all scored 10 points each.

Freshman Angela Carroll led the team in rebounds with 10 while scoring six points.

For Burks, ball movement was a major key in the Bobcats’ offensive output.

“We shared the ball plenty of times today,” Burks said. “Going inside out, sharing the ball, allowed us to get good open looks.”

With the Bobcats starting four underclassmen, Antoine is excited for the future of the Bobcats and how the younger players are adjusting to the game and the program.

“It’s really exciting [that] our youth are really starting to learn and understand how to move together to play the game,” Antoine said. “As each game passes, we have to be able to quickly learn. ... This game is really critical for us as far as the youthfulness of understanding if we follow the scouting report, these are the positive things that happen and here are the areas you need to get better. The future is definitely bright.”

The Bobcats are back on the road this week against Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks are 5-2 for the season and are coming off an appearance at the Puerto Rico Clásico where they finished 1-1.

Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. Saturday in Nacogdoches.
