City launches ‘Help Keep the Lights On’ campaign

Help keep your neighbors in cozy and lit houses this holiday season.

The city of San Marcos launched the “Help Keep the Lights On” campaign on GivingTuesday, according to a Facebook post. The inaugural citywide call to support the San Marcos Utility Payment Assistance Program began Dec. 2. and donations will be accepted for “one full week to help qualifying residents stay current on their utility bills and avoid service disruptions.”

The city of San Marcos website states that donations will go to residents with at least one SMTX Utilities account but may also receive services from Centerpoint Energy, Pedernales Electric or Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.

SMTX Utilities Customers can use the onetime payment option on Customer Connect or by ticking the donation box on their utility bill and listing the desired donation amount. More information can be found at this link: tinyurl. com/citydonations. In the same link, there is also information on several other city-led initiatives in need of donations, including: Memorial or Honor Book Donation — San Marcos Public Library, Pet supplies — San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, Blue Santa 2025 — San Marcos Police Department, Summer Fan Drive and Winter Heater Drive — SMTX Utilities and Program sponsorship — Parks and Recreation Department.
