‘TIS THE SEASON

This is the first weekend of Sights and Sounds, and I know that I’m excited to see it back in its full glory on Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Use of both Plaza and City Park, Christmas lights galore, a carnival, food vendors, including the delectable woodfired biscuits, Bethlehem and local kids’ performances will all be part of the 2025 festivities. Kids get in free on any night, but adults must pay $10.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. is Merry on The Squarey, which is on the square — obviously — and involves “seasonal activities, local shopping and plenty of cheer,” according to the Facebook post for the event. There will be a holiday market as well as DIY gift wrapping and a “Letters to Santa” station on the lawn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a holiday trail “arts and crafts adventure” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to explore 17 downtown stops filled with “creative cheer.” At 6 p.m. they will show “The Polar Express” on the lawn, and Santa is going to be around for pictures at a time to be decided later.
