Co-Defensive coordinator Dexter McCoil has been let go before the Bobcats bowl game. The news was first reported by footballscoop.com and later confirmed by the San Marcos Daily Record.

McCoil had been on staff with the Bobcats since 2023 first coaching as defensive backs, following Head Coach G.J. Kinne from Incarnate Word to Texas State. McCoil was elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2024 where the Bobcats allowed an average of 24.5 points per game.

The Bobcat defense had given up 367 total points during the 2025 regular season including a four-game stretch of allowing over 40 points which the Bobcats lost five consecutive games.
