Texas State will head to the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth to battle the Rice Owls.
This will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Texas State and Rice having last played in 2023.
The Bobcats will play in their third consecutive bowl game in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, having played twice in the First Responder Bowl on the campus of SMU.
This year’s Armed Forces bowl game is a rematch of the 2023 First Responder Bowl in which Texas State made their first ever bowl appearance.
The Bobcats defeated the Owls 45-21 which saw MVP Brian Holloway return two interceptions back for touchdowns and an offensive lineman Nash Jones catch a lateral pass from quarterback TJ Finley for a touchdown.
First played in 2003 as the Fort Worth Bowl before changing to it’s current name in 2006, the Armed Forces Bowl is one of four bowl games played in the DFW Metroplex alongside with the Cotton Bowl, First Responder Bowl and the Frisco Bowl. The bowl game has historically featured three of the service academy teams in Air Force, Army and Navy with the Falcons making the most appearances at seven. This year’s game will mark the first time two teams from the state of Texas will have played against each other.
Other Texas FBS teams that have played in the Armed Forces Bowl include Baylor, Houston, Rice, SMU and TCU.
Kickoff is set for 12 pm Friday Jan. 2 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
