Rattlers compete at San Marcos Holiday Classic

SMHS BOYS BASKETBALL

The Rattlers finished in a three-way tie for third place, going 2-3 at the San Marcos Holiday Classic played this past weekend.

San Marcos ends the tournament with a 4-7 overall record.

The Rattlers opened the tournament play against the Brazoswood Buccaneers, ending with a 54-50 win for San Marcos. Senior Jordan Bernal led the team in scoring with 17 points followed by freshman Tytan Crayton with nine points. Bernal also led the team in assists with five. Senior Elijah Valenzuela and sophomore Cameron Bundage led the team in rebounds with six followed by junior Jerimiah Josiah and Crayton with five.

The Rattlers finished Thursday’s round of games going up against the Hendrickson Hawks, ending with San Marcos losing 63-49.

Bernal led the team in scoring with 10 points followed by sophomore Cameron Bundage with eight points. Freshman Havard Johnson was third in scoring with six points. Senior Peter Aguilar led the team in rebounds with 10 while senior Ernest Lozano led the team in assists [3] and steals [4].

But the Rattlers were able to bounce back on Friday, defeating the Calallen Wildcats 55-47.

Valenzuela led the team in scoring with 22 points, making six three-pointers in the game. Aguilar completed a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Bernal led the team in assists with eight.

San Marcos closed out Friday night in a thrilling game against the Hutto Hippos where the Rattlers fell 56-54.

Bundage led the team in scoring with 16 points while Valenzuela was second with 14 points.

Aguilar and Josiah led the team in rebounds with four while Bernal led the team in assists with six.

San Marcos closed out the tournament against Medina Valley in a rematch from the season opener where the Panthers won 54-51. The Rattlers were unable to defeat the Panthers, falling 59-31.

Senior Tim Cooper and Josiah led the team in scoring with six points each. Aguilar led the team rebounds with six.

San Marcos will be back at the Snake Pit Tuesday night against the Kyle Lehman Lobos. Lehman enters the game with a 35 overall record coming off a 54-47 loss to Taylor.
