The grass is always green at the new indoor golf simulator Swing Station. Rain or shine the course is ready for golfers of all skill levels. This new entertainment option is the first of its kind in San Marcos.
Emerging technologies allow golfers a place to practice and improve their game with state of the art cameras that capture every angle of the club and the speed of the swing. Golfers have a new haven at 1900 I-35 N. Frontage Road, but the fun isn’t limited to those interested in tee time. The simulator offers dozens of games from football and soccer to even zombie dodgeball, creating a space that is fun for all ages.
Swing Station started with a ferocious drive, and not one from a golf club. Owner and entrepreneur Tyler Gescheidle is no stranger to simulating success. Before swinging golf clubs for a living Tyler grew up swinging drum sticks. A lifelong musician, his creativity was nourished through whatever drumming gig he could land. His rebellious spirit was reigned in ever so slightly when given the opportunity by his grandparents to attend college for a degree in marketing. Going through the motions of school, Tyler still marched to the beat of his own drum, using his new business skills to freelance digital marketing assistance to small businesses.
Then the fateful year of 2020 changed everything, not just for the world but for Tyler’s world. Marketing became a lesser priority for businesses so Tyler pivoted to mowing lawns while figuring out his next move. A fitness fan, he took the extra time Covid allowed and obtained his personal trainer license. For the next five years he built up a healthy clientele base who worked out of his garage. When it was time to grow into a new space Tyler started his next venture simultaneously, to bring world-class golf courses to San Marcos.
The hunt was on and it took about a year for Tyler to find a building that could host both his personal training business and the virtual golf simulator. His wife Laci was by his side every step of the way and it was her keen eye for design that transformed the office space into a haven of hospitality and high spirits.
“The whole design and aesthetic is all a credit to my wife, Laci. She nailed it,” Tyler said. “If it was me, it would be like blackout curtains, beads, it would look like a college frat house, straight up. I have no taste. So with all the furniture and the paint and all that, I was super lucky to have her on board with it.”
Tyler put his business degree to work, although always a rebel at heart he approached his studies with an intense interest which paid off during the planning stages of Swing Station.
“I wanted to make a cool, kind of upbeat place and make it inviting for everyone,” Tyler said.
Although anyone of any skill of interest level can enjoy a session at Swing Station, the experience was designed to give golfers the highest levels of simulated skill training.
“The thing that made it such a big investment was the technology I use for the simulators. What it’s called is Full Swing Golf and they’re licensed with the PGA, Tiger Woods owns part of the company,” Tyler said. “They have all the exclusive rights to all the courses that golfers recognize, like Pebble Beach, TPC, Sawgrass and St. Andrews.”
The technology is so advanced that through specialized cameras and rendering these world-class golf courses are recreated to a near perfect match, allowing golfers the experience to golf on famous courses that aren’t always accessible to the general public. No longer do golfers need to book a flight to visit their favorite course, they can run through every hole at their own pace without leaving the 78666 zip code.
Full Swing is not just for the golfers, with many families renting time to explore the dozens of virtual games offered. From pirate battleships to zombie carnivals, kids and kids at heart can have fun beyond the course.
The experience is set up through their website booking system. Just as one would reserve time on a golf course, time slots can be booked online seven days a week, morning til evening. Tee times are booked by bay instead of priced per individual so one can have a solo session or bring a group of their friends or family to join in on the fun.
Swing Station is built for every kind of player, from beginners looking to train, kids discovering the sport for the first time, to seasoned pros looking to blow off some steam and flex their swing in an air conditioned course. Parties are welcome and byob is encouraged if golf and good times are the goal, whether renting a bay or reserving the whole place, groups of all sizes can be accommodated. The dark green walls and relaxing atmosphere can set the stage for a romantic date night as well.
Swing Station is offering discounts for booking multiple hours together. The base price is $45/hour Monday - Thursday and $60/hour Friday - Sunday with multi-hour discounts starting at $20 off up to $60 off depending on how many hours booked together.
