Texas State was back in the win column on Wednesday with a 64-38 win over the UNT Dallas Trailblazers.

The Bobcats improve to 3-6 for the season.

“We had a tough preseason schedule,” Head Coach Zenarae Antoine said. ”This game came at the right time as far as a needed rest and giving more players opportunity, working on certain looks. It’s really important that we get better. Winning is always important but we’re working to get better, so there’s very specific things that we’re looking to do today. I felt we were able to accomplish some of those things today.”

Texas State struggled early to put away the Trailblazers as the Bobcats led by single digits, 31-22, going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats rocked the Trailblazers, outscoring UNT-Dallas 19-6 in the third quarter to put the game away for good.

For Antoine, the Bobcats struggles on defense in transition plagued the team while leading by a comfortable margin.

“That truly was our transition defense and getting better at that, and understanding how we’re going to get to the best of looks,” Antoine said. “We did a really poor job of doing that after the first timeout. We had five turnovers. … To me, that wasn’t acceptable that early in the game. So that was better, taking care of the basketball, and then understanding transition defense had to be better. It did a much better job of sprinting, hustling, and getting after in transition defense.”

Freshman Kaliyah Murphy led the team in scoring with 12 points followed by sophomore Mia Galbraith and senior Myri Walker with 10 points each.

Sophomore Kyra Anderson led the team in rebounds with nine and scored nine points for the Bobcats.

Texas State returns to play Wednesday against the rival Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in the conference opener for both teams. The Ragin’ Cajuns enter the game with a 0-9 overall record, having lost to Morehead State 61-54.

Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Strahan Arena.
