KZSM — Celebrating the Season With You!

KZSM 104.1/KZSM. org offers a soundtrack for your holiday, with special programming throughout this week. For “Vinyl Confessions” (Mondays 10 p.m. to midnight), the Wiz will rummage through our extensive collection of vinyl for holiday selections including the classic, the quirky, and the obscure. (Tune in to see if I was able to hide the chipmunks!)

Tuesday at 4 p.m. we will reprise last Tuesday’s live in-studio reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” a “Bookmarked” holiday special. Using an adaptation of the original text, nine KZSM volunteers and friends brought the iconic story to life. Wednesday at 9 p.m. will reprise Earthman Lanny Smith’s exploration of the deeper meanings of holiday traditions, with guests Pastor Derrick Benn of Great Bethel Baptist Church on Christmas, Rabbi Ari Weingarten of San Marcos Chabad on Chanukah, and Jonafa Bambury of the Dunbar Heritage Association on Kwanzaa.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Christmas Eve and continuing until noon on Christmas Day, we will present holiday specials from past years and a range of seasonal music, including original compositions sent to us from all over the world for broadcast on “It’s What’s New” (Wednesdays 7-9 p.m.).

We’ve been celebrating the season with events as well as with programming, providing musical motivation for the Jingle Bell 5K with the help of the jeep owners who blasted our sound track along the route. On December 12, we hosted our Holiday Concert at the Price Center, featuring the impressive San Marcos High School orchestra ensemble and the talented jazz bands from San Marcos High and Miller Middle School.

At that event, we were delighted to announce that all three groups have been nominated for the San Marcos Music Awards! The first round of voting, to select finalists from the long list of nominees, is going on from now until December 27. You can help choose the finalists and support KZSM by becoming a member now—just go to KZSM.org. And save the date for the Awards Ceremony January 30 at the Price Center!

Also, thank you to everyone who helped us share the spirit of the season by donating to our toy drive, especially the San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship drive organized by Taylor Tribbey, and Songbird Sheri Swartz. The toys were distributed today at the Southside Community Center’s Community Christmas.

Thank you for donating; thank you for listening. May your holidays be filled with joy.
