TXST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Texas State once again found themselves trailing at halftime this week in their conference game against the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. But once again, the Bobcats came away with their second conference win of the season.
Trailing by as many 14 points, Texas State rallied from down 41-31 at halftime to pull off another comeback win, defeating the ULM Warhawks 79-69.
“I’m proud of our team, and I’m proud of my coaches for really working hard at helping these student athletes and understanding how good they can be,” Head Coach Zenarae Antoine said. “At halftime we had 17 turnovers and it’s been a while since we’ve been in that place. It was kind of a dark place and I challenged the group.
“They responded and they did it together. That’s what I love from the bench, the managers, to the women that were out there. They did a great job of responding and finding ways to just keep pressing.”
Texas State improved to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while ULM falls to 5-6 and 02 in conference play.
The first half saw the Bobcats be plagued with turnovers, having 17 in just the first half alone contributing to their halftime deficit.
But despite trailing, sophomore Saniya Burks had the confidence in her team that they were going to come out on top.
“We stayed confident,” Burks said. “Whenever we went into the locker room, we said ‘We were good.’ We knew we were going to win the game. We just had to clean up our hiccups.”
Texas State opened up the third quarter on a 60 run following a layup from sophomore Kyra Anderson and a couple of buckets from freshman Angela Carroll.
ULM was able to push their lead back up to eight at 47-39 but a 7-0 by the Bobcats, capped off with another score from Anderson, cut the lead back down to one at 47-46.
Texas State closed out the third quarter on a 92 run, highlighted by Burks’ buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Bobcats the lead at 5552.
The Warhawks were able to make the score 59-56 with a chance to retake the lead in the fourth quarter but a 133 run by Texas State slammed the door shut on any ULM comeback as the Bobcats won 7969.
Anderson led the team in scoring with 24 points, along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Burks was second in scoring with 22 points along with leading the team in assists with four.
“It just shows our grit and our willingness to work, even though we’re down,” Anderson said. “Just hard work, not giving up on the play and not giving up on the game. Basketball is a game of runs so we are able to just keep our composure and play through [adversity].”
Texas State will return home Monday Dec. 29 for the final home game of the 2026 year as the Bobcats host the Huston-Tillston Rams. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Strahan Arena.
