Texans win streak hits 15 games, move inside Top 10

The Texans win streak hit 15 games as Wimberley defeated rival Geronimo Navarro and the Burnet Bulldogs last week.

The No. 7 ranked Texans improved to 17-1 for the season.

Wimberley started off the week at home as the Texans hosted rival Geronimo Navarro in non-district action.

The Texans blitzed the Panthers 81-40 in a dominant home victory.

Wimberley got off to a great start, scoring 28 points in the first quarter, while Navarro was able to keep up with the Texans. Going into the second quarter, Wimberley led 28-14.

The Texans refused to let up, scoring another 28 points while the defense bunkered down and held Navarro to just nine. At halftime, Wimberley led 56-23.

Wimberley continued their relentless offensive pace in the second half, leading to the Texans winning 81-40.

Junior Reece Wortham and senior Paul Gumbert- Mendoza both led the team in scoring with 21 points each, followed by junior Nathan Baker with 15. Junior Harley Peacock was fourth with 10 points.

Junior Camden Hopkins and Wortham led the team in rebounds with four. Senior Micah Birdsong led the team in assists with eight.

Wimberley closed out the home slate Friday night against Burnet. Once again the Texans dominated their opponents with a 71-43 win over the Bulldogs.

Baker led the team in scoring with 22 points followed by Gumbert-Mendoza with 20 points. Senior Holden Crawford was third in scoring with 12 points.

Gumbert-Mendoza also led the team in rebounds with 11 to complete the double-double while being tied for a team high four assists with Wortham. Gumbert- Mendoza and Baker led the team in steals with four apiece.

The Texans are back home next week for the final tournament of the season at Wimberley HoopFest. Wimberley is schedule to open with Lockhart next Monday at 1:30 p.m.
