A person was fatally struck by a vehicle in San Marcos on Sunday.
Russell Wilde, a spokesperson for the city of San Marcos, said San Marcos Police Department officers responded to a crash near Highway 80 and River Road just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 28.
A black SUV had struck a traffic signal near the 7-Eleven.
Wilde said the driver of the SUV, Amy Marie Blackwell, 30, was taken to the hospital and arrested for driving while intoxicated due to the initial crash. It was a subsequent crash, not the initial crash, that resulted in the death of one of the passengers. One of the people inside of the SUV exited the vehicle and began walking toward Martindale on Hwy. 80 when they were hit by a passing truck.
“Medics responded, but the individual died at the scene,” Wilde said. “The crash remains under investigation.”
Wilde noted that this is the ninth fatal crash within the city limits in 2025.
“Drunk driving is 100% preventable,” Wilde said. “Plan a ride, call a friend or use a rideshare. Just don’t drive after drinking.”
