PUNK SHOW AND A FULL PLATE

It’s 2026, and there’s not a ton to do around town this weekend. But I do have one event for you, along with some fun suggestions for things I enjoy around town. There will be a free all-ages rock show at Triple Six Social, 329 Cheatham St., from 6-10 p.m. on Friday. Dednamez will be playing with opening performances by Grace the Empress and the political punk band Trumpcard.

Now to things to eat for the rest of the weekend. This year, I plan to be fat and happy, and there’s a couple of local places I like to go to achieve that mission. If you’re in the mood for a burger and a brew, you have to hit up Showdown, 207 E. Hutchison St. Get it with the hashbrowns; trust me.

Another great option is Taproom, 129 E. Hopkins St. I actually prefer their Monse Melt, which is a fancy Patty Melt that is, dare I say it, melt-in-your-mouth good. I’m also a huge fan of curry, so I’ll be having a lot of North Street this year, 216 North St., as I do about every other week. The trio plate is my favorite because I can get three different kinds of curry; I don’t like to be tied to one. Don Japanese Kitchen, 829 N. LBJ Dr., is also a fantastic choice. It serves Japanese-style grilled or fried meat of your choice along with rice and any add-ons you prefer, such as an Onsen Egg.
