Exploring Nature: Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions, are they really worth making?

Well, I usually don’t bother because I know the flesh is weak, and I probably won’t follow up and get more exercise– or cut down on sweets or even write better newspaper columns. But on the other hand, while I may not make a lot of formal resolutions, there’s nothing to keep me from at least trying to be a better person.

So here are my well-considered resolutions for 2026. Maybe they’ll give you a start for your own hoped-for improvements.

-I will try to smile at more people, hoping that a little show of friendliness will help brighten their day.

-I will compliment people when I like their particular dress or shirt or a pair of cowboy boots. Most everyone likes to be cool to look at.

-I will put out my black-oil sunflower seeds early in the morning and not lollygag around until late afternoon before I feed my avian friends.

Finally, I’ll try to keep in touch more frequently and in greater depth with friends and family. I know how much I miss someone when they pass on. I’d like to live so other folks will really miss me when I check out. Even if it’s just the birds.
