The San Marcos Daily Record staff gives recommendations on what to do in our community
Picture takers are natural storytellers. But while a photographer often tries to sum up a story with a single image, perhaps a couple more depending on the publication or project, they can get jealous of the writers who can approach a story from multiple angles.
Writers have the opportunity to re-edit, revise, call a source after an event or follow up with more questions days later. And this is why, when given a chance, photographers are usually delighted to tell the stories behind their work, to share all of those pent-up anecdotes that they didn’t have the opportunity to tell you in publications or gallery showings.
Bruce Smith is an excellent photographer, and he’s going to be sharing some terrific images (and the stories behind them) from his photo safaris in Kenya and Tanzania at the San Marcos library on Friday at 11 a.m. Smith worked in media for 25 years, and is a former Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University. He has visited 77 countries and all seven continents.
