Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrated on the third Monday in January, is a federal holiday that honors the birth and legacy of civil rights leader and Baptist minister, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Dunbar Heritage Association will host a twoday MLK Day celebration in honor of Dr. King.

The Two-day Celebration Details: The MLK Kids’ Event is an educational event for kids ages 3 to 15 and adults filled with engaging activities, games, and arts and crafts aimed at teaching youth about Dr. King’s legacy. Registration deadline is Jan. 12. The Kids’ Event will take place on Saturday Jan. 17 from 10:30 a.m.1:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Public Library, 625 East Hopkins.

The registration form can be found at: tinyurl. com/y6t45fsk The 24th annual MLK Walk & Celebration will start with a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial on the corner of LBJ and MLK Streets at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

Immediately after the ceremony, there will be a silent march/walk through the Historic Dunbar neighborhood to the Historic Hays County Courthouse at 111 E. San Antonio St., where a brief program will take place.

A reception follows at the Dunbar Recreation Center, 801 MLK Drive, with free food and music.
