Finalists have been chosen for the Third Annual San Marcos Music Awards (SMMA), and voting is now open to everyone! To vote, go to KZSM.org and make your selection in each of the 26 categories. Then, support your favorites by contacting your friends and asking them to vote.
You’ll find two new categories — Best Jazz and Best Americana, and you’ll find many new names along with some perennial favorites. Nominees for the Golden Martian Award include Kevin Adams, Ricky Fullen, EZ Maldonado, Metal Mark Moniz, and Missoula Slim. For the Lifetime Achievement Award, members nominated Ricky Fullen, Metal Mark Moniz, Ace Pepper, Rob Roark, and Missoula Slim. You can vote until 11:59 p.m. on January 24.
And on January 30 you can see how the vote turned out, walk the red carpet, and enjoy a gala evening at the Price Center. Our two past awards ceremonies have generated some unforgettable moments, along with plenty of fun and festivity. Besides the excitement of revealing the winners, you’ll enjoy performances by Halley-Anna Finlay, winner of the first SMMA singer/songwriter award and nominee for multiple awards this year; Jack Henry, winner of last year’s singer/songwriter award; and HateWaker, finalists for multiple awards this year.
There will be treats available from Gumby’s Pizza, Twin Liquors, Jorge’s Mexican Restaurant, and other local businesses. Your $50 admission includes five food and drink coupons, and more will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Tickets are only $25 for SMMA members, and memberships are still available. Tickets can be purchased in advance through KZSM.org, or at the door. The Price Center is centrally located downtown at 222 West San Antonio Street. The red carpet begins at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 6. Since this gala event is black tie San Marcos style, you’ll want to pause on the red carpet for a picture. Checking out the range of beautiful, imaginative, and quirky outfits that show off San Marcos style adds visual fun to the evening.
You or your business can help make the evening possible with a donation. Check out our website for ways to support the SMMAs, or just email [email protected]. Sponsors will be featured on our publicity and acknowledged on the air. All proceeds from this event go to support KZSM 104.1/KZSM.org, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer community radio station, celebrating the many voices of our vibrant, diverse community.
