San Marcos fell in another thrilling district game, losing to the East Central Hornets 77-71.
Despite another tough district loss, Miller was pleased with the response his team had coming off a blowout loss to Clemens last Tuesday.
“I’m super proud of our guys,” Miller said. “East Central is a very talented high scoring team, who pressures and traps. Where we were Tuesday when we kind of hit almost rock bottom against Clemens, we let their pressure get to us and we didn’t play good. We practiced so hard and good Wednesday and Thursday.
“We were focused tonight, and we showed what we can be. So if we do end up going down in the game and being on the wrong side of the score, [at least] we fought hard, we played together, and we had a great, fun district game. I can’t be anything but proud of my team.”
The thrilling game saw multiple lead changes throughout the contest.
In the third quarter, the Rattlers trailed 43-38 before going on a 9-1 run capped by a bucket from freshman Tytan Crayton to lead 47-44.
But the Hornets rallied for a 13-0 run, extending into the fourth quarter, to go back up 57-47. Once again, the Rattlers rallied after trialing 6253, going on a 9-3 run after a technical foul called on East Central made the game a onepossession contest at 65--62.
San Marcos was unable to recapture the lead in the fourth quarter as the Rattlers fell 77-71.
Senior Peter Aguilar led the team in scoring with 19 points, followed by Crayton with 12 points. Both junior Jerimiah Josiah and senior Jordan Bernal finished the game with 10 points each. Joisah led the team in rebounds with seven while sophomore Cameron Bundage led the team in assists with five.
While the Rattlers didn’t come away with the win, it was the bounceback from a tough loss to Clemens that Miller was the proudest of.
“It’s all about response,” Miller said. “On Wednesday, instead of saying, ‘we suck’, we looked at what we didn’t do good, we watched the film, then we watched these guys and we made some changes in our press break. But basically as San Marcos takes on the No. 9 ranked Converse Judson Rockets. The Rockets enter the game with a 19-5 overall record and a 2-0 district record.
