Commission to discuss demolition review

Commission to discuss demolition review

The San Marcos Historic Preservation Commission will meet Thursday to discuss recommendations to the San Marcos City Council for a historic demolition review process.

Additionally, the commission is set to discuss the establishment of an Office of Historic Preservation as a standalone city department. The Office of Historic Preservation currently exists as part of the Planning and Development Services.

Thursday’s meeting follows the adoption of temporary ordinance 2019-19 by the City Council on June 27, which places a 90-day delay on historic building demolitions. At the council meeting, the council requested that the Historic Preservation Commission provide recommendations for historic demolition review processes following the commission’s July 11 meeting. The commission's purpose is to recommend, promote and approve “the appropriateness and integrity of the seven existing historical districts designed by the City of San Marcos.”
