SMHS GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Lady Rattlers hopes of a district title were kept alive last Friday as San Marcos defeated the Cibolo Steele Knights 51-47. It marks the Lady Rattlers’ firstever road win against Steele.
San Marcos improves to 17-8 overall and 5-1 in district while Cibolo Steele falls to 14-11 and 5-1 in district play.
With the win, San Marcos forced a threeway tie for first place in District 29 Class 6A with Steele and Converse Judson.
Senior Azariah Fennell and junior Rileigh Good led the team in scoring with 12 points each followed by senior Melayna Perkins with 11 points. Sophomore Aubrey Yanez was fourth in scoring with eight points.
The Lady Rattlers will return home Friday against New Braunfels Canyon. The Cougars enter the game with a 18-9 overall record and a 2-4 district record, putting Canyon in a threeway tie for fourth place with Buda Johnson and San Antonio East Central.
The Cougars are coming off a loss to Judson 51-46 last Friday.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Snake Pit in San Marcos.
