SMHS BOYS BASKETBALL
The Rattlers fell at home to the No. 9ranked Cibolo Steele Knights 83-30 last Friday in district action.
San Marcos falls to 0-5 in district play and 1117 overall while Steele improves to 3-1 in district play and 21-4 overall.
“We just didn’t take care of basketball,” Head Coach Dan Miller said. “Steele’s good. They were coming off a district loss. We knew they were going to have an intense defense tonight. When you play a really good team like that, you have to take care of basketball. We didn’t value it tonight, and that’s the result.”
For Miller, Steele used their athleticism to take advantage of the Rattlers’ turnovers, leading to the blowout defeat.
“We’re bringing too hard to the ball,” Miller said. “Their athleticism got to us. They don’t have a weakness. All five guys are extremely athletic and they just exposed some of our weaknesses in taking care of the basketball.”
Senior Peter Aguilar led the team in scoring with eight points followed by Elijah Valenzuela with five points. Junior Jermiah Josiah led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Rattlers will look to capture their first home win of the season as San Marcos goes on the road to New Braunfels Canyon. The Cougars enter the game with a 2-2 district record and a 17-8 overall record, sitting fourth in District 29.
Canyon is coming off a 71-43 loss to Converse Judson last Friday.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Canyon High School.
