WHAT’S HAPPENINGTHISWEEKEND?
The San Marcos Daily Record staff gives recommendations on what to do in our community
“Magic Sunday” could refer to just about any weekend in our fabulous town, but at The Davenport, this is an opportunity to get together with other “Magic the Gathering” fans for an evening of fun and fierce battles. This popular trading card game is well-known for striking artwork and a wide variety of fantasy creatures, but it’s also a great chance to show off your strategies and skills.
In short, Wikipedia says “Magic” is a game where “each card a player draws from their deck represents a magical spell which can be used to their advantage in battle.” But it’s so much more. “Magic” is a chance to explore your imagination and create your own fantasy worlds based on the cards. The “Magic Sunday” event at The Davenport is BYOD (Bring Your Own Deck) and starts at 8 p.m.
Turns out that San Marcos is quite a “Magic” town. Dragon’s Lair also hosts “Magic” events, including the “Standard Showdown” every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for additional “Magic” events, including tournaments, drafts and open play nights.
Buy your “Magic” cards at Dragon’s Lair, 911 Hwy. 80, or Alpha Strike games, 408 S. LBJ Drive. Alpha Strike also sells vintage video games.
