San Marcos earned its first district win Tuesday night, defeating Smithson Valley in Spring Branch, 45-42.
The Rattlers had the final possession of the game, tied at 42-42. Junior guard C.J. Valencia drove to the right elbow as the Ranger defense collapsed into the lane. Valencia jumped and sent a pass to junior wing Josh Deleon, open in the left corner. Deleon canned the triple as the clock reach zero, securing the victory for the visitors.
Deleon led the team with 15 points, followed by senior forward Mason Green with 13 and senior guard Pablo Rios with 12.
