KZSM-LP and Cheatham Street Music Foundation proudly announce that they’ve teamed up to bring you the latest live music show in the KZSM broadcast rotation. “Live From Kent Finlay’s Songwriters Circle” aired its first episode on KZSMLP Jan. 19 at 4:00 pm. New episodes will be featured every other week through March, and after that the goal is to move to new episodes each Monday at 4 p.m., with a weekly Encore at 1 p.m. each Friday.
CSMF Board members John “Missoula Slim” Gilliam, Jason Woolery, James Weber and Sterling Finlay, and CSMF associate Greg Fieler, have been working with KZSMLP’s Rob Roark, Jeremy Garrett and Chris Gardner for nearly a year to bring this show to the airwaves. James runs sound each Wednesday night at “Kent Finlay’s Songwriters Circle” and has been recording each performance directly to the soundboard to put the highest quality live recordings on each new episode of LFKFSC.
Because the radio show is only an hour long, and “Songwriters Circle” often goes several hours, each episode will be an hour of the best recordings from a given week of performances. Like a highlight reel in sports, but instead of athletics, we’re bringing you highlights from some of the BEST singer-songwriters who get up to play on the hallowed stage at Cheatham Street Warehouse each Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
And in case you don’t yet know: “Kent Finlay’s Songwriters Circle” is NOT an open mic night . . .it’s a chance for artists to showcase material they’ve either written or co-written. Think of it as an art gallery for original music, a place for musicians from varied genres and stylistic backgrounds to showcase their work, become familiar with the work of their peers, and workshop their ideas with like-minded people.
It’s been a weekly tradition in San Marcos for over 50 years, since Kent Finlay first opened his now legendary venue in 1974. It’s definitely worth checking out, but if 9 on a Wednesday night doesn’t fit your schedule, well friends, you’re in luck, because KZSM-LP and Cheatham Street Music Foundation have now got you covered thanks to “Live From Kent Finlay’s Songwriters Circle!”
Be sure to tune in for the new broadcasts Mondays at 4 p.m., and/or the Encore Fridays at 1:00 p.m. Kent used to say of shows at Cheatham, “If you’re not there, you’ll miss it,” but thanks to LFKFSC, that doesn’t necessarily have to be true of Wednesday nights anymore!
