SWAT called to Hillside Ranch after report of armed individual

San Marcos Police Department responded to a report of a potentially suicidal individual who was armed at an apartment in the Hillside Ranch complex on Feb. 1, prompting SWAT response, according to Russell Wilde, a spokesperson with the city of San Marcos.

Officers located Esequiel Iniguez, 23, inside his girlfriend’s apartment.

“He was believed to be armed with a knife and refused to come out,” Wilde said. “Two female residents were safely able to exit the apartment during the incident.”

The SWAT team was activated due to safety concerns. San Marcos Emergency Services posted to their Facebook page that Hillside Apartment residents should shelter in place at 12:45 p.m. They were able to safely secure the individual, who was taken into custody without incident by 1:40 p.m., according to the post.

Wilde said Iniguez was charged with Criminal Trespass of a Habitation, two counts of violating a protective order/condition of bond and interfering with public duties.
