Pinchback, Napoli hired as new San Marcos boys’ basketball coaches

On Friday, San Marcos CISD introduced two new coaches who will take over the Rattlers’ boys’ basketball program in Steven Pinchback and Jason Napoli.

Pinchback, a graduate of Angelo State, began his coaching career as an assistant coach at DeSoto, where he helped the Eagles to a UIL 5A state championship in 2009 and a 6A title in 2016. He spent the past two seasons at the helm for Kyle Lehman and broke the school record for most regular season and district wins in 2018-19, finishing the year at 16-16 overall and 7-9 in league play. The team came one win short of making the playoffs, falling to Austin in a play-in game on Feb. 15, 57-49.

Napoli, a Missouri State alum, worked with Pinchback at DeSoto and will now reunite with him as an assistant. In addition to the two basketball championships, Napoli also helped the Eagles claim titles in both football and track. The school district noted the coach will teach Business Information Management at SMHS.

The pair will replace Thomas Acker, who spent two years as head coach for the Rattlers and one as an assistant. San Marcos was 24-44 overall from 2017-19 under Acker and did not reach the playoffs in either season.
