Roald Dahl has long been one of my favorite authors. His short stories for adults are terrific; they almost always have a fiendish twist at the end. His biographies are also worth reading and provide interesting real-life parallels to his stories. “Boy,” focuses on his childhood and “Going Solo” describes his adventures as a WW II fighter pilot in Africa. But Dahl is most famous for his children’s books.
My first exposure to Willie Wonka was the 1971 film, which featured a fabulous performance by Gene Wilder. On Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., Crockett Elementary School will stage their own version of the Wonka story, choreographed by Helda Pounds and directed by Keaton Ainsworth. Wonka has some classic roles for kids, so look for the talented young thespians at Crockett to bring down the house!
As an added bonus, on each night one of the chocolate bars sold at the door will feature a golden ticket! To quote Willie Wonka, “A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men.” Enjoy the show!
