The Bobcats kicked off the 2026 season in style with a dominating 8-2 win over the Toledo Rockets at the Kajikawa Classic in Arizona.
Texas State fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before the Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the first, including an RBI double from senior catcher Megan Kelnar.
Toledo added on another run in the top of the third inning before the Bobcat offense got to rolling.
Junior Kate Bubela smashed a solo home run deep into left field in the bottom of the fourth before senior Aiyana Coleman hammered an RBI double into center-right field in the bottom of the fifth, extending the lead to 5-2.
Senior Keely Williams connected with a tworun homer into right before sophomore Emily Fish hit an RBI double, making it a 8-2 game.
Toledo was unable to score any runs in the top of the seventh to seal the Bobcats win.
Junior pitcher Madison Azua won her first game of the season, throwing four innings and allowing seven hits, two earned runs, one walk while striking out one batter.
Senior pitcher Emma Stroud and freshman pitcher Kaili Witherell closed out the game, allowing a combined one hit and no earned runs to clinch the game.
Bubela was 2-4 from the plate with two RBIs while sophomore Harley Vestal was 2-3 from the plate.
The Bobcats return to San Marcos Thursday for the start of the States Up Invitational where Texas State will host Clemson in the home opener.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
