Bobcats finish play at Kajikawa Classic

The Bobcats wrapped up play at the Kajikawa Classic last weekend, with Texas State improving their overall record to 3-2.

After defeating Toledo in the season opener, the Bobcats returned to play last Friday against Northwestern.

Taking the lead in the bottom of the fifth by scoring on a Northwestern fielding error, the Bobcats found themselves tied at 2-2 after a solo home run from the Wildcats.

Texas State took back the lead in the bottom of sixth inning on an RBI single from Keely Williams, scoring Melania Reeves from second.

Northwestern tied the game once more in the top of the seventh on another solo home run.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Texas State took home the win as Aiyana Coleman smashed a solo walk-off home run, giving the Bobcats the win at 4-3.

Later that night, Texas State took on the tournament hosts Arizona State.

The Sun Devils took the lead in the first inning on a two-run RBI single before extending the lead on solo home run in the second.

Texas State cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth as Katarina Zarate blasted a two-run home run, making it a 3-2 game. The Bobcats were unable to score anymore runs as Texas State fell 3--2.

The next day, the Bobcats took on the Memphis Tigers. Texas State found themselves down 4-0 in the top of the first inning before the Bobcats started their comeback attempt.

Texas State scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by two-run double from Kate Bubela. In the second, the Bobcats scored two more runs on a Karmyn Bass RBI double and a Bubela RBI single.

Memphis later tied the game in the top of the third before the Bobcats struck again. Texas State took back the lead in the fourth, scoring on a Bass RBI double before Aiyana Coleman hit a tworun home run to put the Bobcats up 10-7.

Williams added another run in the sixth with a RBI double before a sac-fly by Bass scored Williams to make it a 12-7 lead. Savannah Coleman then scored her sister Aiyana Coleman on a RBI single.

Memphis scored in the seventh but it wasn’t enough as Texas State won 13-8.

Texas State wrapped up play against Northwestern, where the Bobcats fell 7-1.

The Bobcats return to San Marcos Thursday for the home opener against No. 15 Clemson for the start of the States Up Invitational.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
