The Rattlers fell at home in their district home game against the No. 8-ranked Judson Rockets 71-31.

San Marcos falls to 1122 overall and 0-10 in district play while Judson improves to 25-6 overall and 8-1 in district play.

“[Judson] is really good, coming off a loss,” Head Coach Dan Miller said. “We knew they were going to be really good and so hats off to Judson for having such a great team. It was a good experience, as next Tuesday, going against number eight Steele. So it doesn’t get any easier. We have a very tough district and we’re a little down this year, so it’s a tough district to be down in.

“You get exposed quickly. But at the same time, our guys today really showed some good fight and [playing] great defense. At times, today [they] showed some smart plays on offense. It’s just a matter of against a good team, you have to really be at your A-game and put it together for four quarters. That’s what we didn’t do tonight.”

The Rattlers final two games of the regular sea- son come this week when San Marcos travels on the road to Cibolo Steele Tuesday before hosting rival New Braunfels Canyon on Friday.

With the Rattlers looking to close the season on a high note, for Miller it’s a learning opportunity for not only the seniors but for the players returning next season.

“These are lessons that you’re going to learn in life,” Miller said. “Life’s not always easy. Playing in a tough district, and maybe not having the talent that some of these teams have is not easy, but how do you respond? It’s always about response, coming to practice and practicing for each other and playing hard. That’s what we’re gonna tell them and that’s what we’re gonna encourage them to do so we just can finish on the best high note possible, whether that’s to get one more win or not.

“What I want to see is people that watch this team play hard, play together. And they’re representing the Rattlers the right way. That’s what our guys do,” he said.

Tipoff for San Marcos-Cibolo Steele is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cibolo Steele High School.
