The City of San Marcos has transitioned the San Marcos Police Department Facebook page to San Marcos Emergency Services, expanding the page’s mission to include safety updates from multiple departments including Police, Fire, Emergency Management and the City Marshal’s Office.

The change reflects a unified approach to communication, providing residents with one trusted source for timely, accurate information during emergencies, major incidents, and everyday operations, according to the city.

“Having one centralized place for updates makes it easier for our community and residents to stay informed, especially during emergencies or when timely information matters most,” said Assistant City Manager Lonzo Anderson. “It strengthens trust, reduces confusion, and ensures people always know exactly where to go for accurate and up-to-date details.”

WHAT’S CHANGING

- The name and branding of the San Marcos Police Department Facebook page - The scope of content, which will now include Police, Fire, and Emergency Management updates WHAT’S NOT CHANGING

- Police updates will continue to be shared - The page remains an official City of San Marcos communication channel In addition to the Facebook transition, the City is launching a new official X account: @San-MarcosES. This platform will be used to deliver real-time alerts, traffic updates, emergency notifications, and time-sensitive safety information.

“X provides a platform where information can be shared and amplified quickly,” said Communications Specialist Russell Wilde. “This allows us to better reach residents, commuters, and media partners when timing matters most.”

The City encourages residents to follow both platforms to stay informed: - Facebook: San Marcos Emergency Services - X (Twitter): @San-MarcosES

For emergency situations, residents should always call 911. For nonemergency police matters, contact 512-753-2108.
