Senior Paul Gumbert-Mendoza set a new school record for most points in a single game, scoring 48 points as the No. 13 ranked Texans defeated the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies 99-47.
Wimberley improved to 8-0 in district play and 31-2 overall while Fredericksburg falls to 3-5 in district play and 18-12 overall.
The Texans got off to a hot start, scoring 27 points in the first quarter before dropping 32 points in the second quarter to lead 59-27 at halftime.
The Billies were unable to overcome the deficit as the Texans rolled to the victory.
Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in scoring followed by senior Holden Crawford with 13 points. Junior Reece Wortham was third in scoring with 10 points.
Junior Nathan Baker led the team in rebounds with 11 while Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in assists with nine and steals with seven.
The Texans will be on the road Friday to take on the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons. The Dragons enter the game with a 19-11 overall record and a 4-4 district record coming off a 71-55 win over the Bandera Bulldogs.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Long Creek High School.
