The Bobcats had a rough ending to the States Up Invitational, falling to the No. 11ranked Arkansas Razorbacks 9-0.
Texas State finishes the States Up Invitational with two wins, against No. 18 Clemson [4-0] and BYU [10-2], and losses to Wichita State [10-3] and No. 11 Arkansas [9-0].
“One of the things we talked about is that’s why I set us up for the schedule we have,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “There are not many mid majors playing the schedule we are because that’s who we’re going to have to be when it comes to May. We have to understand what we need to do between now and May to get better.”

It was an up-and-down tournament for the Bobcats who not only battled some of the toughest teams both in the country and regionally but also illness as well, which limited the availability of their roster.
“We battled a lot of outside entities this weekend that didn’t help us,” Woodard said. “Hopefully we can get healthy and put ourselves in a better spot to be able to handle 6 games next weekend as a team instead of not having a few people available.”
With multiple players needing to step up, Woodard stressed the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities given to the team.
“It’s just about us competing day in and day out,” Woodard said. “Whether you’re a senior or a freshman, they’re starting to understand that they’re going to get some opportunities and we just have to make the most of those opportunities.”
Texas State will host their second consecutive weekend tournament of the season as the Bobcats start play in the River State Classic.
The Bobcats open play against No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The Cowgirls enter the game with a 6-4 overall record, coming off their Clearwater Invitational.
First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bobcat Softball Stadium. Texas State will follow up their game with Oklahoma State with a game against Kansas City with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
