Playoff basketball is here as San Marcos enters the postseason on the hunt for their second consecutive win in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.
This year will be a rematch of last season’s first round playoff showdown as the Lady Rattlers take on the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs.
Alexander enters the postseason with a 18-17 overall record and a 4-6 district record. Alexander was tied with Del Rio and Medina Valley for the final two playoff spots before the Bulldogs emerged victorious, beating the Rams and the Panthers to win the No. 1 seed in the Division II playoffs representing District 30.
During the playoffs last season, San Marcos defeated Laredo Alexander 65-62 for the Lady Rattlers first playoff victory in over a decade and their first playoff win in Class 6A since 1990s.
San Marcos finished the regular season with a 20-11 overall record and an 8-4 district record. The Lady Rattlers finished in third place in District 29, which saw San Marcos hand Cibolo Steele their only district loss of the season.
Injuries plagued the team in the second half of district play but the Lady Rattlers were able to preserve to secure their playoff bid.
This is third consecutive season the Lady Rattlers have qualified for the postseason, their longest streak since the early 2000s. San Marcos is also looking to win consecutive playoff games since the 20002001 and 2001-2002 seasons Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at Harlandale High School in San Antonio.
