Bobcats fall to Baylor

The Bobcats dropped their first game of the season, falling to the Baylor Bears 14-4.

Texas State falls to 3-1 for the season while Baylor improves to 4-0.

The Bobcats trailed in the first inning after Baylor hit a two-run RBI double to go up 2-0 over Texas State. The Bears later added another run in the second inning with an RBI single.

Texas State answered back in the third inning when senior Rashawn Galloway hit an RBI triple to put the Bobcats on the board.

In the next at-bat, junior Jaquae Stewart crushed a two-run home run, tying the game at 33.

Senior Chase Mora followed up Stewart with solo home run of his own as the Bobcats took the lead at 4-3.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bears took back the lead following an RBI triple then a two-run RBI single to go up 6-4.

Baylor followed up the inning with a five-run sixth inning with the Bears scoring four runs on four Bobcat wild pitches. Going into the seventh inning, the Bears led 11-4.

Baylor added three more runs to close out the game as the Bobcats fell to 14-4.

Texas State will look to regroup this weekend as the Bobcats host the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a baseball preview of the upcoming Pac-12 Conference.

The Bulldogs enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record having dropped their four-game series against Hawaii.

First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m.

Chase Mora hit a solo home run in the Bobcats 14-4 loss to Baylor last Tuesday. Mora currently sits tied for second for most home runs hit in a career at Texas State with Jose Gonzalez at 33. The record is currently at 36, set by Paul Goldschmidt in 2009. Daily record photo by Gerald Castillo
