The Rattlers fell in the final regular season game at home, losing to the Canyon Cougars 72-58.

San Marcos finishes the season with a 11-24 overall record and a 0-12 district record.

I thought [the seniors] had a good senior day,” Head Coach Dan Miller said. “We had a tough 1st quarter. We got down by 15 and we lost by 15. I’m proud of the seniors, even though we didn’t win [in district] this year.”

It was the final time seniors Jordan Bernal, Ernest Lozano, Xavian Balles, Walter Howard, Elijah Valenzuela, Tim Cooper and Peter Aguilar stepped on the court of the Snake Pit for the Rattlers.

For Miller, it was an honor coaching his senior players throughout the ups and downs.

“The one thing about our seniors is that for four years, they may not have won a lot, but they were a pleasure to coach,” Miller said. “This group, seven guys, were eligible, stayed out of trouble, set a great example and they fought to the end tonight.

Though the record will not show it, Miller is more than proud of how his group represented the program both on and off the court.

“They’re great kids, and they know none of them are college basketball players or going off to play anywhere,” Miller said. “But what they do is bring it every day and they represent our school the right way. That makes me really proud as a coach. Even though we didn’t get the wins this year, we know we’re going to get the wins in the future. This year was about those kids being the good young men they are.”

The Rattlers will return six players next season including post players in freshman Tytan Crayton and junior Jerimiah Josiah.

The duo both averaged over five rebounds per game with Crayton leading the way averaging 6.3 rebounds per game and 6.9 points per game.

With a talented freshman class coming up along with a group of sophomore and junior basketball players on the roster, Miller is excited about the future of the program.

“We’re in a super tough district for boys basketball and bringing in Wagner and Piper doesn’t
