KZSM — Of, By, and For San Marcos

Congratulations again to the winners of the 2026 San Marcos Music Awards! And thank you to all the KZSM sponsors and volunteers whose efforts made the evening memorable. Kudos also to Clay DeStefano and the Price Center for welcoming us into their beautiful space. And we’re especially grateful to organizer and KZSM board member Justin James Bridges for motivating us to recognize and celebrate the richly creative San Marcos music scene.

The San Marcos Music Awards are by no means the only thing that embeds KZSM 104.1/KZSM.org in the life of our city. Many of our programs are generated locally, and several of them focus specifically on the city’s culture and institutions.

On Sundays from 7-8 p.m. host Cathy Lara traces the roots of our community on “Raices,” a bilingual broadcast. “If we look back at the Hispanic people in this town fifty, sixty, or seventy years ago, there wasn’t much written history,” she points out. “Raices” captures and records that history before it is lost to time.

Listeners can explore more recent alternative history Saturdays 2-4 p.m. on “Daze of Our Kind,” as host Brett Stahl and producer Joey Dunnigan continue the legacy of KIND radio, an unlicensed alternative radio station that operated in San Marcos from 1997-2000.

On Mondays 4-5 p. m., you can visit a venerable San Marcos institution that is still going strong. “Live From Cheatham Street Warehouse Kent Finley’s Songwriter Circle” brings the best from the venue that has been fostering performers like James McMurtry and Terri Hendrix since 1974.

To keep up with San Marcos today, you can learn about the city from 11:30 a.m. to noon on the fourth Tuesday of every month on “San Marcos in Focus,” as elected officials, city staff, or volunteer members of city boards and commissions share information about the work of their department.

On “Downtown Discoveries,” at 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, host Jovan Marin talks with representatives of downtown businesses and organizations about what they have to offer the community.

On “We the People,” Fridays 7-8 p.m., host Rob Roark covers matters of interest to San Marcos, talking with elected officials, community leaders, candidates for office, activists from throughout the political spectrum, and ordinary citizens with concerns about issues in the community.

With these shows, as with all of our programming, the life of San Marcos streams through 104.1 LPFM and KZSM.org throughout the week.
