SMHS RATTLER BASEBALL
The Rattlers closed out the Hill Country Classic with a 9-8 win over the Austin Westlake Chaparrals last Saturday.
San Marcos finished the Hill Country Classic with wins over Dripping Springs, Kyle Lehman, Rockwall and Austin Westlake, while losing to Waxahachie and tying Keller.
The Rattlers struck first in the first inning with a two-run RBI single from Andrew Wilson. San Marcos later scored another two runs in the second inning on a ground-out and a wild pitch to go up 4-0.
Westlake answered back, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take their first lead of the game at 6-4.
But with the Rattlers coming up to bat, San Marcos was soon back in the lead.
The Rattlers loaded up the bases with one out before Jack Vasquez forced a bases-loaded walk. Wilson tied the game with another bases-loaded walk, making it a 6-6 score.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Rattlers took the lead an another bases-loaded walk by J. Alonso before San Marcos scored two runs on a fielder’s choice to lead 96.
Westlake score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a one-run game but the Rattlers closed it out with game-ending flyout to secure a 9-8 victory over the Chaparrals.
Xavian Balles earned the win on the mound, throwing 1.1 innings while Landon Munoz earned the save. Wilson led the team from the plate with three RBIs while Cole Wiatrek went 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs as the team forced seven walks and made 10 hits.
The Rattlers will play their first home game Monday night against Median Valley before press time.
