Rattlers win first district game over Judson

San Marcos scores 18 unanswered runs in the final two innings in offensive shootout

In an offensive slugfest, the Rattlers defeated the Converse Judson Rockets 20-11 to win their first district game of the season.

The Rattlers improve to 5-2 for the season and 1-0 in district play.

San Marcos trailed 1-0 in the top of the first before tying the game up in their next at-bat.

Juliana Garcia scored a run for the Rattlers, hitting into a fielder’s choice before a Judson error allowed Garcia to move to second, tying the game at 1-1.

With the bases loaded, Keziah Rios gave San Marcos the lead on an RBI single to go up 2-1.

Judson scored nine unanswered runs in the next two innings as the Rattlers suddenly found themselves trailing 10-2.

However, despite the large deficit, the Rattlers refused to give in.

San Marcos scored in the top of the fifth inning when Emalyn Martinez connected with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 10-4.

Later in the top of the sixth, Martinez struck again with an RBI single followed up by a tworun RBI double by Ariann Flores. Then with one swing of the bat, Selena Silva connected with a three-run home run as the Rattlers tied the game at 10-10.

In the same inning, the Rattlers then took the lead on an RBI single by Marley Longoria to go up 11-10.

Back-to-back errors by the Rockets allowed three more runs to come across as San Marcos went up 14-10.

In the top of the seventh inning, Rios connected with an RBI single before Longoria scored on a wild pitch. Rios was brought home on an RBI single by Kendra Robledo as San Marcos extended their lead to 17-10.

Flores continued the offensive firework show with a two-run RBI single before Juliana Garcia hit an RBI single of her own as San Marcos made it a 20-10 game.

The Rockets scored one last time in the bottom of the seventh before Garcia sat down the next three batters, including getting two strikeouts as San Marcos came away with the thrilling win.

Garcia earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings while striking out 10 batters. Flores led the offense with four RBIs, hitting 2-for-4 from the plate followed by Silva with three RBIs. Martinez went 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBIs.

San Marcos is back on the road for the Corpus Christi Bayfront Bash tournament.
