AFROFUTURIST ART AND INSPIRATIONS

The Cephas House is hosting a reception to meet the artists who created the terrific works hanging in their gallery in conjunction with their Afrofuturist exhibit theme. The reception will take place from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, and while you’re there, be sure to check out the exhibit of Afrofuturist books, clothing and comics at the Calaboose African American History Museum across the street.

The artists at the reception include: Texas State grad Bob Jones, who painted the “Diversity Mural” at the corner of LBJ and MLK streets. His small format paintings are part of a series he calls “Walking in My Shoes.”

The collage portraits of Texas State grad Dave McClinton, who layers digital textures and photos to create large-scale images.

Yvonne Palkowitsh, whose artwork combines staged photographs with digital composite techniques.

The black-and-white photos of New Orleans native Terrence Moline, whose images reflect the mystery and culture of his hometown.

This is a great chance to talk with the artists and discuss their art and inspirations. Both exhibits will be up until April 24.
