Hays County Corrections Officer arrested

A Hays County Corrections Officer Miguel Simpson has been arrested for sexual assault. The Hays County Sherriff’s Office was formally notified by the arresting agency, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 26.

On Feb. 3, the victim (who will remain unidentified to protect privacy) reported to investigators that Simpson sexually assaulted her on Feb. 1 at the 400 block of Havarti Way, New Braunfels.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s investigators conducted a thorough criminal investigation. As a result, investigators submitted a probable cause affidavit to Justice of the Peace #1, Judge Darrell Hunter, who subsequently issued an arrest warrant for sexual assault. Judge Hunter ordered the arrest of Miguel Simpson on Feb. 25. At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 25, GCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau investigators and the Guadalupe County Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested 28-year-old Miguel Simpson of San Marcos.This remains an active investigation and has not yet been presented to the Guadalupe County Attorney for prosecution. No additional details related to the investigation will be released at this time.

“Another sexual predator has been removed from our community,” Guadalupe County Sheriff Joshua Ray said.  “We will continue to aggressively pursue those who prey on vulnerable victims. If the message hasn’t been clear before, let it be clear now: this will not be tolerated in Guadalupe County. I commend our investigators for their exceptional work and unwavering commitment to justice for crime victims. I also want to thank Sheriff Hipolito and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and cooperation throughout the investigation.”

There is an ongoing Hays County administrative investigation concurrent with the Guadalupe County criminal investigation. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office holds its personnel to the highest standards and remains committed to transparency, accountability and public trust.
