Downtown stabbing victim flees in someone's car, crashes into pole

There was a fight at 4:20 a.m. on Feb. 28 in downtown San Marcos near Sean Patrick's in which one individual was stabbed, according to Russell Wilde, a spokesperson for the city of San Marcos.

Jose Luis Rodriguez Jr.

Wilde said Jose Luis Rodriguez Jr., 45, remained at the scene of the fight and was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Rodriguez is reported to be a contractor for EPSI who was working downtown emptying trash cans.

According to Wilde, the person who had been stabbed entered an idling vehicle that did not belong to him and drove down Hopkins until he crashed into a pole across from City Hall, which temporarily knocked out power to more than 2,000 customers. Officers contacted him near the H-E-B on Hopkins, and he was transported to Seton in critical condition.

Police are actively investigating, and all information at this stage remains preliminary.
