The Bobcats brought home some hardware over the weekend as Texas State won the Cleburne College Baseball Series after defeating Abilene Christian twice and Tarleton State once.
With the pair of wins, Texas State improves to 9-2 for the season.
In the first game of the series, the Bobcats took on the Abilene Christian Wildcats.
Texas State scored three runs in the first three innings, two of which came off Wildcat errors.
Abilene Christian scored in the bottom of the fifth inning but in the next Texas State atbat, freshman Jackson Cotton extended the lead with a two-run RBI double to put the Bobcats up 5-1.
The Wildcats scored three unanswered runs in the final three innings but were unable to complete the comeback as Texas State won 5-4.
On Saturday, Texas State regrouped to face the Tarleton State Texans.
The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the first with a two-run RBI double by sophomore Dawson Park. Texas State scored another run on an RBI double by Blake Beheler followed up by an RBI single by junior Manny Salas to lead 4-0.
Tarleton State scored three unanswered runs going into the top of the ninth before the Bobcats added insurance runs.
Cotton got the offense rolling with a leadoff home run before Park hit an RBI single to extend the lead 6-3.
Freshman Tanner Carson then hit an RBI single before junior Samson Pugh forced a basesloaded walk to extend the lead 8-3. Freshman Clayton Namken added the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly as Texas State closed it out to win 9-3.
The Bobcats closed out the tournament Sunday in a rematch against Abilene Christian. Texas State only needed one swing of the bat as Salas connected with a threerun home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the Bobcats up 3-0 for the only runs of the game.
Salas was later named the Cleburne College Baseball Series Most Outstanding Player.
SERIES PREVIEW Texas State returns home for another Pac-12 preview matchup as the Bobcats host future conference member Washington State in a fourgame series The Cougars enter the series with a 5-6 overall record coming off a weekend at Long Beach State, where Washington State defeated the Dirtbags twice before losing to BYU twice.
First pitch Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos.
