San Marcos starts district play Tuesday against Buda Johnson
The Rattlers wrapped up play at their non-district tournament in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex where San Marcos finished with a 24 record playing against some of the top teams in the state.
San Marcos returns home with a 6-6-1 overall record.
The Rattlers opened up play with a 3-0 win over the Frisco Lone Star Rangers on Thursday. Charlie Helgeson connected on a two-run RBI single to give San Marcos the early lead in the third inning before Andrew Wilson scored the final run on a sacrifice fly. Cole Wiatrek earned the win, throwing six innings, allowing just three hits, no earned run and striking out four batters. Caleb Gomez earned the save.
In the next game, the Rattlers fell to the Denton Guyer Wildcats 2-0 in a low scoring affair.
San Marcos dropped their next two games on Friday, losing to Cypress Bridgeland Bears 8-0 then Little Elm Lobos 65.
The Rattlers snapped their losing skid with a thrilling 1-0 win over the Pearland Oilers. Coming down to the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Colson Geesee forced a walk to put the game-winning run on first. With Judah Diaz coming in to pinch run, Jyuan Alonso connected with a walk-off RBI triple in center field to defeat the Oilers.
San Marcos closed out the tournament against the Wylie Pirates which saw the Rattlers fall 8-7.
The Rattlers start district play this week when San Marcos hosts district rival Buda Johnson. The Jaguars come into the district opener with a 7-3-2 overall record led by shortstop Selvin Garrett who is currently committed to play for Texas.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Rattler Ballpark in San Marcos.
