PARADES
The Just for Fun parade has been hitting the San Marcos streets since 1978, and the organizers are hosting a Fun-raiser on Friday, March 13 at The Davenport to help keep the tradition alive.
The Fun-raiser will start at 6 p.m. with music by FOGDART at 7 p.m., TrumpCard at 8 p.m. and Attic Ted at 9 p.m. There will also be a Just for Fun costume contest at 10 p.m., so extremely “fun” attire is encouraged. It’s $5 to enter the contest, $1 to vote and $5 for six votes. Entry into the event is donation- based, with attendees deciding the amount they would like to contribute.

Every year on the fourth Saturday in April, locals have taken to the streets in the name of nothing other than a great time, often dressing up in colorful costumes, dancing and having a blast through the San Marcos streets. Ron Aiken, also known as Pizza Ron, started the parade in the 70s. Aiken passed away recently and will be honored at the parade for the many years of fun and memories he brought to San Marcos.
This year, on April 25, the parade will gather in the parking lot of Industry, 110 E. Martin Luther King Dr., at 10 a.m. Parade starts at 11 a.m. Donations can be sent via Venmo to @Tanya-Thornhill with a note that says, “donations for Just for Fun parade.” For more information or other ways to donate, email ninalindaramos@ gmail.com.
