Preliminary Election Results

Preliminary Primary Election results are in for Hays County. Results are not considered final until canvassed by local officials on March 9.

The Hays County Judge race in the Democratic Primary is headed for a runoff as Election Day concludes. Incumbent Judge Ruben Becerra has 15,616 votes, representing 49.14% of the total votes in the race, compared to challenger and Precinct 2 Commissioner Michelle Cohen, who has 14,435 votes, representing 45.42% of the total vote. Joel Martin has received the remaining 5.43%. If no candidate reaches 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held between the top two candidates. The winner will face the sole Republican Party candidate for County Judge, Geoffrey Tahuahua, in the General Election. 

For Criminal District Attorney for the Democratic Party, Alfonso O. Salazar won with 54.50% of the vote, or 16,349  votes. Landon Bryan Campbell received 45.50% of the vote, or 13,647 votes. There was not a candidate for the Republican party for the Criminal District Attorney race.

Jimmy Alan Hall ran unopposed for County Court-at-Law #1 for the Democratic party. There was no Republican candidate for County Court-at-Law #1.

For County Court-at-Law #2 for the Democratic party, no candidate received over 50% of the vote, so there will be a runoff between the top two candidates — Chris Johnson and Thomas Just. Chris Johnson received 47.97% of the vote, or 13,785  votes. Thomas Just received 35.54% of the vote, or 10,211 votes. W. David Friesenhahn received 16.49% of the vote, or 4,738  votes. Charmaine Wilde ran unopposed for the County Court-at-Law #2 for the Republican party.

Amanda K. Calvert ran unopposed for District Clerk for the Democratic party. There was not a Republican candidate for District Clerk.

For County Clerk for the Democratic party, no candidate received over 50% of the vote, so there will be a runoff between the top two candidates — Cynthia A. Millonzi and Nicholas "Nico" Costilla. Cynthia A. Millonzi received 47.51% of the vote, or 14,204 votes. Nicholas "Nico" Costilla received 31.67% of the vote, or 9,468 votes. DeeDee Rodgers received 20.82% of the vote, or 6,225 votes. There was no Republican candidate for County Clerk.

Daphne Sanchez Tenorio ran unopposed for County Treasurer for the Democratic party. There was no Republican candidate for County Treasurer.

For County Commissioner, Pct. 2 for the Democratic party, Johnny Flores won with 72.60% of the vote, or 5,380 votes. Bryan Escobar received 27.40% of the vote, or 2,030 votes. Abby Gibson ran unopposed for County Commissioner, Pct. 2 for the Republican party.

For County Commissioner, Pct. 4 for the Democratic party, Angie Unger won with 50.56% of the vote, or 3,864 votes. Laurie Brown received 49.44% of the vote, or 3,779 votes. For County Commissioner, Pct. 4 for the Republican party, Rob McClelland won with 66.12% of the vote, or 4,368 votes. Wm. Travis Crow received 33.88% of the vote, or 2,238 votes.

For Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Place 2 for the Democratic party, Maggie Hernandez Moreno won with 75.46% of the vote, or 7,101  votes. Elizabeth Trevino Amaya received 24.54% of the vote, or 2,309  votes. There was no Republican candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Place 2.

Beth Smith ran unopposed for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, Place 1 for the Democratic party. Janie Flores ran unopposed for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, Place 1 for the Republican party.

Sandra Bryant ran unopposed for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 5 for the Democratic party. There was no Republican candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 5.

Joseph Jamieson ran unopposed for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3 for the Republican party. There was no Democratic candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3.

John Burns ran unopposed for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4 for the Republican party. There was no Democratic candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4.
