Texans advance to regional finals, defeating Jubilee

Wimberley faces La Marque in a rematch of last year’s regional final

The Texans are back in the regional finals for the second consecutive season and just the second time in program history as Wimberley defeated the Brownsville Jubilee Titans 106-62.

The Texans improve their overall record to 36-2 while Jubilee finishes their season at 246.

Wimberley’s dyamite offense exploded for 20 points in the first quarter before dropping 30 in the second while holding Jubilee to just 10 in same period. At halftime, the Texans led 50-24.

Wimberley continued to roll in the second half, scoring 27 in the third quarter followed up with 29 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

The Texans’ historic season goes into the regional final where Wimberley will face the team that eliminated them the year before in the La Marque Panthers.

The Texans and the Panthers met in the regional final last season where La Marque won 74-60. The Panthers fell in the state semifinals to Houston Wheatley.

Both Wimberley and La Marque were ranked inside the Top 25 for the majority of the season, as the Panthers entered the playoffs ranked No. 2 while the Texans were ranked No. 12.

Tip-off for Wimberley-La Marque is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Bryan Rudder High School.
